(Comparing & Contrasting)

a. In your answer to this question name ONE of the thinking skills from the Appendix.

Thinking skill I chose: Comparing & Contrasting

b. Answer the question showing appropriate evidence of the use of the chosen thinking skill.

How do Waverly and her opponent each approach the game of chess? What conclusions you can draw from their approaches?

Answer: During the game Waverly blocks out everything and sees only the pieces on the chess board. It is as if she is in her own world of chess and her opponent does not exist. In contrast to this, her opponent wrinkles his nose at her. You can conclude the Waverly possibly draws upon some of her Chinese values such as maintaining face, mystery and magic, group cooperation and respect. Her opponent is a bit more competitive and not as subtle (values associated with America)
