Present Progressive

USES

1. Actions that are currently take place. 

    • We are learning about the present progressive right now.

    • We are learning about the present progressive this year. 

2. Actions that will happen in the near future.  

    • We are learning about the present progressive later today. 

FORM

  • Positive: subject + am/is/are + verb(ing) + rest of the sentence.
    • We are watching a movie right now. 
  • Negative: subject + am/is/are + not + verb(ing) + rest of the sentence. 
    • We are not watching a movie right now.
  • YES/NO Question: am/is/are + subject + verb(ing) + rest of the question?
    • Are you watching a movie right now?
  • WH Question: WH word + am/is/are + subject + verb(ing) + rest of the question?
    • What are you watching right now?


VERB USAGE

  • he/she/it -               is, isn't 
  • they/we/you -       are, aren't
  • I -                                   am
