USES

1. Actions completed in the past with a time reference. 

  • Yesterday, I found a lost dog. 


FORM

  • Positive: subject + verb2/irregular verb + rest of sentence.
    • Last night, I found a lost dog. 
  • Negative: subject + did not (didn't) + base verb + rest of sentence. 
    • Last night, I didn't find my dog. 
  • YES/NO Questions Did + subject + base verb + rest of the question?
    • Did you find your dog?
  • WH Questions: WH word + did + subject + base verb + rest of the question?
    • When did you find your dog?
