The Passive Voice


Present Simple Passive 

Positive: Subject + (am / is / are) + V3 + Rest of the sentence.

  • Books are read in the library every day. 

Negative: Subject + (am not / is not / are not) + V3 + rest of the sentence.

  • Books are not read in the library every day. 


Present Progressive Passive 

Positive: Subject + (am / is / are) + being + V3 + Rest of the sentence.

  • Books are being read in the library every day. 

Negative: Subject + (am not / is not / are not) + being + V3 + rest of the sentence.

  • Books are not  being read in the library every day. 

 

Present Perfect Simple Passive 

Positive: Subject + (has / have) + been + V3 + Rest of the sentence.

  • Books have been read in the library. 

Negative: Subject + (has not / have not) + been + V3 + rest of the sentence.

  • Books have not been read in the library. 

Past Simple Passive 

Positive: Subject + (was / were) + V3 + Rest of the sentence.

  • Books were read in the library yesterday. 

Negative: Subject + (was / were) + V3 + rest of the sentence.

  • Books were not read in the library yesterday.
