Present Perfect Simple
USES
1. Actions that have happened in the past without a reference to time.
- We have studied the present perfect once before.
2. Actions that have happened multiple times in the past.
- I have taught this subject quite a few time in the past.
3. Actions that have occurred in the past but have a present effect.
- We have studied the present perfect for a few weeks, so we are ready for the exam.
4. Actions that have just occurred in the recent past.
- We have just finished studying the present perfect!
5. Sometimes, for actions that have started in the past but have continued until the present. (especially for stative verbs)
VERB USAGE
- Most of the students say that they have known this material for years.
FORM
- Positive: Subject + have/has + verb3 + rest of the sentence.
- I have studied English.
- Negative: Subject + have/has + not + verb3 + rest of the sentence.
- I have not studied English.
- YES/NO Questions: Have/Has + subject + verb3 + rest of the question?
- Have you ever studied English?
- WH Questions: WH word + have/has + subject + verb3 + rest of question?
- Why have you studied English?
- He/She/It --- has
