Relative Pronouns / Clauses
A relative clause usually starts with a relative pronoun:
Who à Refers to people
· My mother, who loves me very much, is coming to visit me.
Which à Refers to things (or animals)
· There is something about this song, which is very annoying to me.
That à Refers to people, things and animals (cannot come after a comma)
· The team that lost the race is my favorite.
· Where is the book that I bought yesterday?
Whose à Shows possession
· Here is the cat, whose tail is hurt.
Where à Refers to place
· Evanston is the town where I grew up.
When à Refers to time
· November is the best month because it is the month when I was born.
Whom à Refers to a person just referred to by name or used after a preposition.
· She is someone for whom I would do anything and everything to help.
· My mother Marie, whom I love dearly, is an amazing lady.
