Present Perfect Progressive
USES
1. Actions that started in the past and have continued to the present.
- We have been trying to learn the past perfect progressive since 9th grade. I think we finally have got it!
This tense is usually used to discuss the duration of an event (how long something has been going on).
FORM
- Positive: Subject + have/has + been + verb(ing) + rest of the sentence.
- I have been studying English since grade 3.
- Negative: Subject + have/has + not + been + verb(ing) + rest of the sentence.
- I have not been studying English for a very long time.
- YES/NO Questions: Have/Has + subject + been + verb(ing) + rest of the question?
- Have you been studying English?
- WH Questions: WH word + have/has + subject + been + verb(ing) + rest of question?
- Why have you been studying English?
